Design with simplicity. This is a philosophy that I have always stood by and it translates in my work. I like to blend simple, clean graphics with organic, hand-drawn shapes.
Bright, striking colors juxtaposed with earth tones. I take a design and reduce it down to the concept and then build upon that. A good design must be supported by a strong foundation.
These ideas were developed through years of trial, error, experience and schooling. Things that have made me a better person and ultimately, a better designer.
After graduating from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena California, I started working in Advertising as an art director and in early 2005 began working on global brands such as Apple, Harman International, Nissan and Sony Playstation. In 2006 Apple became my primary focus and I developed campaigns for iPod, iPhone and Macbook.
There is something magical about creating work on a global scale, having the ability to walk out of your door and see your creation 20 feet tall on the side of a building. It’s great but it has a tendency to be cold and distant from the viewer. A separation that can’t be overcome.
I think the body is the perfect canvas for design. It’s a great way for not only the wearer to express themselves but also for the artist to realize his vision. It’s tactile, it’s visceral, it’s culture. It’s how people view you and how you view yourself.
That is what I love about clothing. That is why we started A79. A79 brings my vision to life and puts it out there for the world to touch and experience. It’s as intimate as you can get with art and for me, that’s the reward.
